Progas Grade Gases For Gas Chromatography
These gases are mostly one component gases and are of extremely high purity in the order of 99.9993% or more. Generally at this level of purity, the amount of each impurity is present in PPM or PPB levels. The total amount of impurity in ppm or ppb is mentioned.
Phoenix recommends Progas grade gases for optimal functioning of your GC and other instruments. The use of Progas grade gases surpasses the need for expensive and unpredictable in line purifiers, which often demonstrate break through of contaminants. Phoenix recommends Progas grade gases for FID, FOD, and TCD, HID, DID etc.
Below is the list of Progas grade gases that are available ex stock from Turbhe works.
Carrier and Support Gas Impurity Effects on Gas Ch
Discharge Ionization Detector (DID)
Requires 99.999% (N5.0) purity helium as trace impurities increase background signal and baseline noise reducing usable discharge current resulting an impaired sensitivity.
Electron Capture Detector (ECD)
Halogen containing species have significant electron capture cross section, which impairs sensitivity and raises the background signal. Oxygen contamination modifies detector response and increase noise. Hydrocarbons can quench signal response and generate ghost peaks.
Flame Ionization Detector (FID)
Hydrocarbon contamination must be at a minimum in the carrier gas to prevent ghost peak, baseline drift and to reduce background noise. Hydrocarbon in air and fuel gas caused increased noise and background current.
Flame Photometric Detector (FPD)
Hydrocarbon, Carbon Dioxide and Sulphur component causes signal quenching and increased background noise.
Hall Electrolytic Conductivity Detector (Hecd Or ELCD)
Impurities can become concentrated or purge and trap sampling devices and inject into Gas chromatograph.
Helium Ionization Detector (HID)
Trace impurities will cause baseline noise, signal polarity shafts reduced sensitivity and instability.
Photo Ionization Detector (PID)
Hydrocarbon impurites increase baseline noise and oxygen reduces sensitivity.
Thermal Conductivity Detector (TCD)
Oxygen and moisture impurity causes filament oxidation resulting in reduced sensitivity and ghost peak.
